![]() 1:59 Saturn I Block 2
(2003-2008)
-- After failed attempts to finish the model for NARAM-46 and NARAM-47,
the Saturn I finally flew to 1st place in Team Division at NARAM-50.
1:59 X-20 Dyna-Soar/Titan I
(2005)
-- This is a "Science Fiction/Future Scale" model and our first true
"team" project. Dyna Soar glider built by Kevin Johnson in
MD;
Titan booster built by the Tschirharts in VA. Flown to 1st
place
in Team Division at ECRM-32.
1:165 Saturn I Block 2 (2003) -- Josh's 1st place Peanut Sport Scale entry built for ECRM-30 (C Division). 1:7.3 Iris (2002) -- Jess's first ever Sport Scale entry, winning 3rd place in C Division at RAMTEC-10. 1:17.5 Black Brant XII (2002) -- First official entry by Josh in NAR Sport Scale. Model took 2nd place in C Division at RAMTEC-10. It later won 1st place in Team Division Giant Sport Scale at NARAM-47 in 2005. 1:13.44 Aerobee 350 (1990-2001) -- Josh's first attempt at a competition scale model. Due to scale data inconsistencies, this model was not completed beyond a "boilerplate" version (see also Aerobee 350 NARTS scale data project). 1:22.5 Aerobee 350 (1990) -- Josh's first effort to model the Aerobee 350, culminating in a mostly-painted, but undetailed sport model flown once early in 1991 (at my first Vikings club launch). A lot of effort went into paint color experimentation to match the flourescent colors of the real thing (without much success). Staging was accomplished by a length of fast Thermalite running from the booster motor nozzle to the upperstage motor, ignited by the booster's exhaust. The delay was a bit much, as the rocket arced over uncomfortably before upperstage ignition; however, the rocket was recovered safely.
