| The Addicted 2 Jesus Rocket was a project that evolved
out of my Astrocam launch at a Vacation Bible School in 1995. The
Astrocam became a good excuse to start building rockets again. The
Addicted 2 Jesus is a BT-55 diameter 2-stage rocket that has a three engine
cluster in the booster. Two 13mm motors in side pods deploy streamers
after the core motor (C6-0) ignites the upper stage. The fins on
both stages are canted to produce a spin. I did this primarily to
compensate for possible incomplete cluster ignition. The model has
flown only once, and it was a complete success; it was one of the most
impressive sport flights I have seen--beautiful slow spin, vertical trajectory,
and perfect staging. I'll launch it again one of these days--probably
when my friend Jeff Dull (on the left in the center photo) is in town;
he was there at the first flight for ground support. He liked the
model so much that I built him a downscaled version as a Christmas present,
the Addicted 2 Jesus II--it has not flown as of yet. |
